Player of the Week: Jonathan Toews

Captain Serious has been having a good year - named to the Canadian Olympic team, won the gold medal was named the tournament's Best Forward and then won the Stanley Cup, which gave him entrance into the Triple Gold Club - Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold and World Championships Gold - with the likes of Joe Sakic, Chris Pronger, Jaromir Jagr and Niklas Lidstrom to name a few. Oh yeah, and he was the Conn Smythe Trophy winner for playoff MVP.

He's played for Team Canada quite a few times (gold at the U-17 World Hockey Challenge in Albert, gold int he 2006 and 2007 World Junior Hockey Championships, gold at the 2007 World Championship and silver at the 2008) and is usually quite proud of his team's accomplishments:

After winning the Stanley Cup, his hometown of Winnipeg honoured him in a bunch of different ways, including giving him the key to the city, renaming a community centre after him and naming a lake after him. The lake naming came with some controversy though - often in Manitoba, lakes are named after heroes that fought for their country and many relatives of military vetrans and soldiers currently fighting did not thing it was fitting that a hockey player was given the same honour as someone fighting for their country "simply for winning a trophy". Not enough to dampen Toews' spirit though!

As if all that was mentioned above wasn't enough, he also received the greatest honour in the world: he got to meet Snookie.
